Moyola Park 2 (Kerr, Canavan) – Connor 1
It took a run from defence by Alfie Stewart in the 28th minute to break the deadlock in today’s keenly contested Belfast Telegraph Intermediate Cup First Round tussle between Moyola Park and former Ballymena League rivals, Connor. Stewart passed to Russell Kerr near the edge of the penalty area and the latter beat the excellent Connor goalkeeper Crockard off his right hand post. Up until this point in the game both sides had created chances but the defences were well on top.
Moyola Park started better in the second half but again Crockard was on song and defied both Sam Shiels and Neil Murdock with excellent saves. Substitute Jack Canavan scored what proved to be the decisive goal for Moyola Park following superb approach work by Liam O’Donnell who was impressive on making his debut. Moore scored a super injury time consolation goal for the visitors which rocketed into the top left hand corner of Mark Morgan’s net.
